Piazza Mercanti is
a two bedroom penthouse apartment in one of Rome's most prestigious piazzas.
Piazza Mercanti is on the quiet side of Trastevere - still near many restaurants,
bakeries and craftsmen's workshops but a little away from the livelier
side of Trastevere with its pubs and night life. Mercanti is 135 square
meters plus a 40 square meter terrace.

The apartment was designed and built by an Italian architect for his own family. His vision was a spiraling tower apartment over Rome crowned by a large terrace with views over the roof tops of Trastevere and with the Vatican and Piazza Venezia in the distance.

There is an elevator providing easy access to the top floor of the well maintained 1600s building. The front door leads into a cozy living room with a separate dining area which leads to the kitchen. There is a working fire place. Large terracotta and wrought iron steps lead to the next floor which is the study or TV area. Just two more steps up and you have the entrance to the master bedroom with its own Jacuzzi bathroom and views to the green trees of the Aventino across the Tiber. |

Exiting the
master bedroom and following a short corridor leads to the second guest
room which is small but has its own bathroom and ample closets. From there
one goes up a few steps to the roof top terrace. This is where you will
probably spend most of your time. The weather in Rome is such that one gets
a lot of use out of outside areas - especially when they are like this terrace.
The terrace has a fridge to hold breakfast milk etc. and there is a mini
kitchen in the corner with sink. There is also an old Roman fountain from
who knows when. |
